Olivia's Video is Played at Kentridge on March 19th for all to see

Some time ago, Olivia felt passionately about trying to influence her peers to slow down and drive safe. She asked the administration at Kentridge high school if she could do an assembly.  They didn't do an assembly, but the leadership team at Kentdridge helped Liv make a video of her story for the whole school to see, and it was played on March 19th. They also passed out bracelets that said "Speed kills" in an orange color.  She did a great job on the video and we were very proud of her for trying to make beauty from ashes so to speak, and have some good come from this terrible situation.  A few weeks ago her old AP English teacher wrote her the following email:

Hey, Liv,

In our classes today we got to watch the video you helped create about Speed Kills. I wanted to take a moment to reach out and thank you for both your willingness to share your experiences and the impact it will have for those who are able to watch it. You have continued to amaze me with your consistency of looking out for those in your community who can benefit from your voice. Though you spoke about being the older sibling for your family and others, you truly carry yourself as an older sibling for all. Whether you are protecting, helping, or teaching, you treat all those who are around you with the same love and care I am sure you give to every young person in your life.

Though I was proud of the human being who left KR last year, hearing your words today reinforced how proud I am of the human you still are and, most excitingly, the human you are becoming. As you get ready to enter the next pivotal stage of life, I have great joy knowing the world will continue to learn from Olivia Brown. To echo your closing words, I hope you are able to find the time and space to slow down and love amidst your busy life that often finds you caring for others.

I wish you all the best as you close out your senior year, and thank you for all you have shared with myself and your community.

Thank you,

Ben Shenk
