Jess Speaks at King County Target Zero Community Meeting

March 27, 2025 King County Community Meeting (Target Zero) Jaron and I were asked if we would be willing to attend and speak at this community meeting . Here's what I said:  Last year on March 19th, my 12 year old son Buster Brown was in my best friend Andrea Hudson's car with his school mates and best buddies, Matilda and Eloise Wilcoxson, and Charlotte and Nolan Hudson, when a car going 112 miles per hour ran a red light and t-boned Andrea’s car, instantly claiming the lives of Andrea, Eloise, Matilda, and Buster, and putting the lives of Charlotte and Nolan Hudson in critical condition.   When Sara Hallstead reached out to us and asked us if we would be willing to say a few words at this community meeting, my first instinct was to say no, and I knew everyone would understand if we did. But as time went on and I saw the daffodils pop up at the crash site, and the measures the community was taking to reach out to us, I felt like giving back a little. I appreciate w...

Rebuild Beautiful Speach

Image
On behalf of my family I want to give our heart felt thanks to Rebuild beautiful and the city of Covington for this meaningful event in honor of our loved ones we’ve lost. Thanks for walking/ running with us today as we remember Buster, Andrea, Matilda and Elouse.  I was thinking of them as I ran today.  If Buster and Lou were here they would have run side by side the whole race egging each other on and joking around. They would have been silly yet determined. Tilly probably would have been encouraging one of her younger sisters to keep going or helping push one of her younger brothers along. And if your lucky enough to have ran by her and caught her eye she would have smiled at you. If Andrea were here she would have chatted and laughed and ran and never seemed out of breath and she would have looked absolutely lovely because she always did. Oh how we miss them! Thank you for remembering them today.  Since that dreadful day over five months ago- We have been sustained by...

Ruby's experience on March 19th

Image
Today was march 19. the most horrible day of my life, when 4 amazing friends and family were gone, but also the best because 2 people had their life saved. i will tell you the story from start to finish of my experiences of the crash. it was a beautiful morning the sun was shining and it started out great. then at noon or so buster didn't come back from the h.o.m.e. program. mom was shopping at a store, and I was finishing up violin. mom came back from shopping, and told us that she saw a car driving really fast and then her eyes fixed on the car as it was driving then saw a poof of smoke. we told her buster hadn't come back from the h.o.m.e. program. we all started getting really worried then mom asked warner to come with her to were the car was. at the time liv was sleeping soundly not knowing anything was wrong. almost immediately i ran to liv to wake her up. i told her what mom told us about the car, and i told her that buster hadn't come home. knowing this she c...

Nora's Simple Faith and Closeness to the Veil

Image
On the day of March 19th I don't have man memories of interactions with Nora that day amidst the craziness, amidst the tragedy.  She was only three when Buster died and yet she acted much older and wiser than a three year old at times.  When I first walked in and saw my kids for the first time since the crash, they were all in the family room crying.  Nora was laying on Ruby and kind of rubbing her. She was quiet as she observed us all. She didn't make any noise at all for many minutes, which is rather unusual for a rambunctious three year old. She stayed with us while we cried and looked concerned. Then she said "I'm sorry you are all sad".  It was genuine and compassionate, and belied her age.  I don't know where she went after that moment, I have so few interaction with her as the flow of visitors started pouring in and I was just reeling from what had happened, but I do remember one more interaction right before she went to bed.  She looked at me...

Community gathers, mourns after crash near Renton kills 3 children, woman (Seattle Times)

SOUTH KING COUNTY — Members of the South King County community gathered Friday night by the site of a violent car crash to remember the three children and woman who were killed. Andrea Hudson, 38, died in the crash near Renton along with children of close friends —  13-year-old Matilda Wilcoxson, 12-year-old Eloise Wilcoxson  and  12-year-old Boyd Buster Brown  — who were passengers in her car. Two of Hudson’s children were injured, as well. Hundreds of people gathered at a nearby park before carrying lit candles to the crash site in the unincorporated community of Fairwood, where a memorial has grown with bouquets of flowers and three stuffed bunnies.  Jacqueline D’Eon Robertson, who organized the vigil, used to coach Buster’s soccer team. Her son, 13, still played with him — and learning of the loss “really hit home” for him, Robertson said. During the vigil, people gathered in a circle in front of the site and sang “The Spirit of God,” a hymn in T...

March 19th, 2024

Image
March 19th, 2024 I came downstairs after showering and Buster was in the kitchen making himself a bagel, fresh spread cream cheese pushed perfectly and precisely to the very edge of the bagel, smothered with homemade jam.  He looked up and smiled at me. I said “Hey buddy, good morning” and walked over to give him a big hug from behind.  He said he already had gotten his practice and scripture reading done and asked if he could have a playdate after school that day. I said yes and told him how awesome he was, and that he was an inspiration to me for just getting up and getting to work.  I went and got the girls up and brought them downstairs. After everyone had their breakfast I did COME FOLLOW ME with the kids.  Come follow me was based on 2 Nephi 31- the doctrine of Christ.  I drew a stairway leading up to heaven on the kitchen table and asked the kids to read some verses and tell me what steps are outlined that will lead us to heaven and salvation....

Obituary written by Kelly Hoopes Davis

Boyd Buster Brown Obituary “Seasons are necisary [sic] to learn and grow and change and become more like God. Seasons are a cycle so they will always come again so if you fail you can always try again.” Buster Brown In the joy of a well-lived twelve years, we mourn the loss of Buster Brown, who brought to our world so much vibrancy and love. Born on June 15, 2011, and killed in a traffic accident on March 19, 2024, Buster's life was a tapestry of imagination, service, kindness and adventure. If there was a trick to extending the hours to a day, Buster seemed to know it. He was a constant source of creativity, from crocheted beanies to handmade ceramics, detailed origami and whittled sticks. Buster often worked on projects in tandem with his younger sister Ruby, and the handmade Christmas and birthday gifts from Buster were everybody’s favorites. His efforts turned spare moments into meaningful activity. Whether it was on the court playing Bump with his dad and brother Warner, cat...
